✓8000 GRIT FINAL POLISH FOR A MIRROR FINISH - This 8000 grit aluminum oxide polishing compound is Step 5 in rock tumbling, used after 800-1500 grit prepolish. It removes the last fine haze on smooth, scratch-free stones and leaves quartz, agate, jasper and obsidian with a deep glass-like shine. It is a polish, not a shaping grit, so start only when the surface is already smooth.
✓ROTARY TUMBLER: use 1.5-2 tbsp (about 0.05 lb) per 1 lb of stones and water just to the top of the rocks; run 5-7 days and top up water if needed. VIBRATORY TUMBLER: use 1-1.5 tbsp per 1 lb, mix a thick slurry, add ceramic media to about 3/4 full and run 1-3 days. Rinse stones, barrel and media between stages.
✓NO TUMBLER? USE A ROTARY TOOL, BENCH BUFFER OR FELT LAP - Mix 1/2-1 tsp of this polishing powder with water to a milk-like slurry. Charge a felt bob for a rotary tool, a soft clean cotton wheel on a bench buffer, or a felt or leather lap. Run at low speed with light pressure, keep the surface damp and rinse often. Polish only after 1200-3000 grit prep.
✓POLISH STONE, GLASS AND JEWELRY - Use on quartz, agate, jasper, obsidian, petrified wood, gemstone cabochons, smooth glass edges and metal jewelry. Glass needs a wet, low-speed pass and a test spot first; dry or fast buffing can haze it. A polish only brings out shine on prepared surfaces and cannot remove scratches left by earlier grits.
✓METAL, RESIN AND CERAMIC - On stainless steel, aluminum, brass and copper, mix with water or oil into a thin paste and buff with a soft wheel kept only for final polish. Test soft metals first, use light pressure and clean white residue from crevices. On resin, acrylic and glazed ceramic, test a scrap at low speed. Not for plated, painted, wood or leather surfaces.
✓FITS ROTARY AND VIBRATORY TUMBLERS - This 1 lb resealable jar of rock tumbler polish works with tumblers and polishers from major brands and covers multiple batches. Pair it with KomeStone 12000, 17000, 30000 or 50000 grit for an even finer finish, and keep a dedicated 8000 grit rock tumbling grit and polish on hand for adult hobbyists, lapidary crafters and rockhounds.
